I might be a little obsessed with highlighters right now… I have been on the hunt for the perfect DIY Highlighter and this time I wanted to see if I could make a DIY Holographic Stick! Spoiler alert, it turned out great! This is a four ingredient DIY that is so easy to make it’s almost shocking. I swear, before I got into making DIY beauty products I thought the makeup I found at the store was basically made with magic, the thought of being able to make this stuff in my own kitchen wasn’t even on my radar. It turns out that a lot of this stuff is completely easy to make and only requires a few steps to make a genuinely great beauty product. This DIY Holographic Stick is no exception! This is a great DIY for you if you have been enjoying the holographic trend as much as I have!
Add in 2 Tbsp. of beeswax. The pellet type works the best!
Add 1 1/2 Tbsp of coconut oil. (Maybe more but we’ll get into that in a moment!)
MICROWAVE! It took me about 2 minutes to get the mixture completely liquefied.
If your mixture is still too waxy add in as much coconut oil as you need. You can test out the mixture by allowing it to cool a bit and trying to rub it into the back of your hand. If it seems to turn right back into beeswax you need more coconut oil, but if its workable and warms with your body heat you have the right consistency!
Add in a few drops of vitamin e oil. I added 4 drops.
Now it’s time to add your iridescent mica powder! I specifically bought a pale purple mica powder for this DIY, and I mixed it with my favorite iridescent blue mica powder. You can use any color of mica powder you’d like, but if you’re trying to recreate the Milk Makeup highlighter, I suggest this combo:)
I wound up adding about 2 Tbsp. of mica powder which is A LOT OF MICA POWDER! Maybe it’s the beeswax? But this just soaked up the mica powder, it took a lot to get the mixture to look holographic. Test as you go on the back of your hand to come up with the right amount.
You can also add in loose eyeshadow to alter the color if you’d like. I added a dash of sparkly pink eyeshadow because I wanted to!
All you have left to do is to pour your mixture into your container! Before you do this though, your mixture will have hardened a bit (because of the beeswax) so you’ll have to re microwave it just before pouring.
