I spent the entirety of this Saturday morning going through my closet trying to choose a limited wardrobe to pack for a few weeks in New York. After years of over stuffing luggage I have finally gotten packing down to a science, aside from my shoe addiction that is. I realized that I wouldn’t wear half of the clothing crammed in my over stressed luggage and decided that it was enough. I came up with a simple packing formula that I now use all the time and would love to share with you. I pack the necessities first: jeans, blazer, tee shirt, tank top, cashmere scarf, an easy to wear dress, comfortable shoes and a sweater. It isn’t an easy task to scale down your wardrobe if you’re like me, but I know that as long as I have these essential things I can make it through a few days having covered the basics. At this point I basically put in what I ‘want’ to bring such as my new lace top (pink Robert Rodriguez top seen above), a dress to wear when going out at night, a silky blouse, essentially anything frivolous. My outfits fill out nicely at this point and I have avoided the stress of packing by first meeting my actual needs and then indulging myself by bringing what I want to wear. I still have trouble bringing an excessive amount of shoes as you can see, but I figure that I am doing pretty well since I NEVER check luggage anymore.
