Layers are the key when you’re off to the beach. Often coastal weather will vary from scorchingly hot to windy and cold so it is wise to dress in an outfit that can be added to or subtracted from. For a summer day in Laguna Beach I chose to wear this beautiful mesh floral Seafolly Kailua cover up layered over a swimsuit and a tight skirt. I also had a leather jacket in tow for the cool night time which wound up coming in handy around 7 o’clock. For my bag I chose to throw my sunblock, cellphone, and lipstick in my favorite oversize Samudra clutch. This clutch is a wonderful alternative for the Summer months, because it does not encumber you as you frolic in the sand and it transitions wonderfully from day to night wear.

I know that this is technically a fashion blog, but I also consider it a travel and lifestyle blog. A huge part of my travels (and lifestyle I guess) is dedicated to the arts. I love music and art, they are facets of my life that define a huge part of who I am. That being said, I wanted to share something non-fashion related today: my latest trip to the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art). I have been to this museum an uncountable amount of times, but if I had to guess- close to 100 times. Yeah… I mean it I really like art, and I always have.

These are a few of the pieces that I love the most, some Suerat, a little Rousseau, and a dash of Andy Warhol for good measure. I also saw Tilda Swinton in a glass box sleeping (meditating? napping?) I’m not entirely sure what this was all about, since when I read about it last week I decided not to believe that Tilda Swinton was actually spending hours laying down in a glass box for the public to view her. But- yes, I can in fact confirm that she was there doing just that, I saw her and I’m pretty baffled by it. It is a “piece” titled “The Maybe”, google it… I guess there in lies the point of art- to make you think, talk, and guess. Maybe there is no point at all and that is what is profound about it. It is something we have done for thousands upon thousands of years that is often purely for enjoyment, isn’t that incredible?

Clover Canyon Endless summer

Clover Canyon Endless summer

I have  developed an extreme obsession with Clover Canyon. I adore the patterns, colors, and risk taking designs that they make so wearable. As soon as I saw this skirt I knew I had to have it, and after missing out on an amazing Clover Canyon skirt a few months ago and still regretting it (it was pink with fish all over it), I bought this as fast as I could. After a long Winter I have been dying to switch over to Summer style. It may be little premature to wear a sleeveless top and a neoprene skirt when it is barely 60 degrees out, but I couldn’t resist putting this skirt on as soon as it came. Even though it’s not Summer yet here in the Pacific Northwest, I have begun to fill my closet with a poignantly curated selection of sun-drenched pieces – starting with this “Endless Summer Skirt”.

On Saturday I had the chance to head to New York City for the week! I love it here, it is truly one of my favorite places on earth. In some way, I feel that I have done a lot of my growing up here. My roots are here since my mom is from New York, and because of that I have accumulated years here through all of my trips.  I can remember the  first time I heard a cab driver curse loudly at JFK airport, and the first pretzel I indulged in streetside. For some, I suppose this city is too much, with the yelling, honking, and flashing lights. But for me, this city is home; all of it’s strengths, all of it’s flaws, they are all things that have come to make me feel at home.
